This Jobim song from the Bossa nova period gets an updated and more visceral reading from Paul Ricci’s Afro-Brazilian guitar groove and an interlude from the Baden Powell song “Consolaçao”. Both themes, with lyrics by Vinicius de Moraes, tell of a sadness that seems to never end but needs to be exorcised. Mafalda’s jazzy delivery of the lyric with soaring improvisational gusto expresses the conquest of life over sadness with the help of some great interplay from Art Hirahara, Harvie S and Rogerio Boccato
